Grooves in the Grove

September 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th:  5-7pm. Back by popular demand, this live music series brings a variety of Eastern North Carolina musicians to Poplar Grove Plantation for a relaxed Sunday to help support its conservation efforts. Adults are $5, children and teens are free. This month’s performances include Mojo Collins & Band (4th), Folkstone Stringband (11th) and Massive Grass (18th). Farmer’s Market at Poplar Grove

September 6th, September 13th, September 20th, September 27th: 8am-1pm. Guests can expect fresh fruits, vegetables, plants, herbs, flowers, eggs, cheese, meats, seafood, honey, baked goods, peanuts and a variety of handcrafted items from regional artisans. Details: 910-686-9518.

Historical Society Luncheon

September 15th:  11:30am. The Historical Society of Topsail meets at the Missiles and More Museum for lunch and a speaker. Cost is $12. Reservations are required. Details: hstiluncheons@gmail.com.

NC Muscadine Harvest Festival

September 23rd-24th:  Celebrate the nation’s first cultivated grape and state fruit at the Kenansville Fairgrounds. Sample more than 250 wines and enjoy tailgating with friends as you listen to live entertainment featuring The Embers with Craig Woolard, Blackwater, North Tower and others. The festival runs from 5-9pm on Friday and 10am-7pm on Saturday. Tickets are $8 in advance for Friday, $20 in advance for Saturday, $25 for a two-day pass and slightly higher at the gate. NC Spot Festival 

September 24th-25th: Hampstead is home to the NC Spot Festival. Enjoy music, games, a pageant, vendors and a traditional Southern spot meal, served from 11am to 6pm, Saturday and 11am to 5pm, Sunday. Fireworks start at 9pm on Saturday. All proceeds go to Topsail schools and the Hampstead Volunteer Fire Department. Details: www.ncspotfestival.com.

Sneads Ferry Family Movie Night 

Fridays beginning September 9th through October 21st: Join us for a night under the starts. Bring your blanket or chairs for a night of family fun! Friday Nights at dusk at the Sneads Ferry Community Center

Wilmington

Jazz at the Mansion

September 8th: 6:30pm Bellamy Mansion Museum in Wilmington, NC, features El Jaye Johnson and the Port City All-Stars. Bring blankets or chairs and relax on the lawn. Beer and wine for purchase. Adults $5.00 to $12.00. Kids under 12 get in free.

Wilmington Boat Show

September 9th – September 11th:  Friday, Noon to 6pm; Saturday, 10am to 6pm; Sunday, 11am to 5pm. The Wilmington Boat Show takes place at the Port City Marina, Pier 33, the Wilmington Convention Center and at Battleship Park. The events features in-water displays, a demo dock, music and food, marine industry exhibits, fishing and sailing seminars, and activities for kids. Free parking at the Battleship North Carolina and complimentary water taxi across the Cape Fear River to the Port City Marina. Adults $5.00 to $15.00. Kids under 16 admitted free.

Historic Downtown Marketplace

September 11th-October 30th: 10am to 3:30pm. The Historic Downtown Wilmington Marketplace meets Sundays through Oct. 30 and features more than 30 rotating artists for an ever-changing collection of locally made art, jewelry and handmade items.

Riverfront Farmer’s Market

September 10th through November 19th:  8am to 1pm.The Riverfront Farmers’ Market in downtown Wilmington, NC, convenes along the banks of the Cape Fear River each Saturday through Nov. 19, and features local farmers, produce, arts and crafts, music, and more. Items change weekly depending on the season and include fresh fruits and berries, vegetables and herbs, eggs and cheeses, plants and flowers, meat and seafood, doggie treats, tea, honey, fresh baked goods, jams and jellies, wine, art, and more. Rain or shine.
