1-2, 8-9, 15-16: A Merry Little Christmas Festival. 5-9pm. Listen to holiday stories and see the 1850 manor house at Poplar Grove Plantation decorated in its seasonal best before taking a walk down the Trail of Lights in the woods. Details: 910-686-9518 or www.poplargrove.org.
8-9: Sneads Ferry Winterfest. The annual event includes the lighting of the town Christmas tree, breakfast with Santa, arts and crafts, food and entertainment at the community building on Peru Road.
8-9: Arts, Crafts & Gifts. 10am-5pm. Poplar Grove Plantation hosts this annual show just in time for Christmas. Fun the youngsters, great shopping for mom and dad. Santa may even make an appearance! Details: www.poplargrove.org.
Sat. 9: Burgaw Christmas Parade. 6pm. Floats, cars and even bands deck themselves out in holiday lights for the annual evening night parade.

Thur. 14: Historical Society Luncheon. 11:30am. The Historical Society of Topsail meets at the Missiles and More Museum for lunch and a speaker. Cost is $13. Reservations required. Meetings are held at the Assembly Building, 720 Channel Blvd., Topsail. Details: firstname.lastname@example.org.
DEC 8th – Join the holiday festivities with the lighting of the City of Wilmington’s Christmas tree at the World’s Largest Rotary Wheel in beautiful Greenfield Lake Park! This joyous occasion will be full of excitement starting with live entertainment, followed by the tree lighting, a visit from Santa and a holiday movie showing at the Hugh Morton Amphitheater.

DEC 9th – The Wrightsville Beach Museum of History invites you to participate in the museum’s 5K Jingle Bell Run. As this will be a celebratory holiday event, race participants are encouraged to dress in holiday apparel (i.e. Santa costumes, antlers, snowmen, etc.). Those registering before November 9 will receive a “Naughty” of “Nice” t-shirt. Historic cottages and beautiful winter marshes are part of the scenery as you meet the challenge of this special 5K on beautiful Wrightsville Beach.

DEC 1st – DEC 16th -Join Poplar Grove Plantation as they open the beautiful grounds aglow with lights twinkling under the stars! Get in the holiday spirit with a camp fire as it blazes for roasting marshmallows, or drop a letter in the mail to Santa or US soldiers. Enjoy a wagon ride through the Abbey Nature Preserve, a “Grinch’s Toy Junk Shop” in the blacksmith studio and then snuggle up for an outdoor movie night. Movies featured will be A Christmas Story, The Polar Express and Elf. Guided Candlelight Tours of the Manor House begin on the hour starting at 5 pm on Friday and Saturday evenings. Advanced reservations are required for the candlelight tours and they are limited to 15 guests.
